Wellness LifestyleFeeling Like I’ve Won the Lottery: Reflecting on Family, Values, and Wealth
In my line of work as a Senior Wealth Advisor, conversations often focus on numbers: retirement projections, investment strategies, and legacy planning. But today, I find myself reflecting on an asset that isn’t measured in quarterly statements or market indexes my family. Put simply, I feel as though I’ve won the lottery with the parents I have.
Growing up, my parents taught me the basics of saving, working REALLY REALLY hard, and planning for the future concepts that have served me well as an advisor. But their most important lessons weren’t about money. They modeled values like generosity, resilience, and integrity, which I now see as the foundation for true and lasting wealth. My mother, for example, spent her career as a dedicated nurse a role that demanded compassion, strength, and selflessness. These are the qualities that, to me, define real success.
Within our Jackson Group team at CIBC Private Wealth, I strive to bring those same values to the table. Whether advising clients on complex financial matters or supporting colleagues through career transitions, I draw on the example my parents provided. Life brings its market ups and downs, but character and kindness retain their value in any cycle. I’m proud to work with a team that understands the importance of supporting one another, giving back to our communities, and celebrating each person’s story.
Gratitude isn’t just a personal practice it’s a professional asset. In client meetings, gratitude for the trust placed in us leads to better listening, deeper relationships, and ultimately better advice. In leadership, gratitude for the efforts of each team member cultivates morale and builds resilience. The legacy I hope to leave both at work and at home is rooted in the same sense of appreciation and possibility that my parents instilled in me.
True wealth goes far beyond financial figures. The greatest gift my parents gave me was not a nest egg, but a set of values that inform every aspect of my work and life. For that, I’ll always feel like I hold the winning ticket.
